The Yucatan Sleeper
A Jjaro-imprisoned entity of mass destruction. Dormant beneath the Yucatan. The threat at the centre of Pathways Into Darkness.
Description
The entity beneath the Yucatan pyramid is never named in any surviving Jjaro archive. It predates human civilisation — possibly predates the Jjaro themselves. It is related to the W'rkncacnter in nature: a being of pre-physical chaos imprisoned by the Jjaro in a structure of their own engineering. The pyramid the Maya built was not their creation; it was a shell around an older Jjaro mechanism, constructed to keep the sleeper dormant for as long as the mathematics held.
A German WWII-era expedition into the Yucatan disturbed the mechanism. The sleeper began to stir. US Special Forces were dispatched in 1994 to descend into the pyramid and prevent a full awakening — a task that, if it had failed, would have ended all life on Earth. One soldier completed the objective. How, precisely, is classified to this day.
